The Korean Cable Television Association and KOEX are presenting the Seoul Cable and Satellite show
at an im-portant time in the annals of Korean cable TV. In fact, cable is still in its infancy in Korea, so the
industry is gearing up for greater penetration and searching for more programming. Korea is also one of
the first two countries in the world to introduce digital TV.
The exhibition will be held March 5-8 and will include exhibits encompassing the areas of cable TV
equipment and parts, cable TVprograms, cable TV software and services, DBS equipment and parts,
broadcasting equipment, consulting, and magazine and program brokerage.

SEMICON Korea is an international showcase for state-of-the-art semiconductor and flat panel display products. Equipment, materials and service suppliers from around the world will present their products and technologies at the exhibition which will be held at KOEX from February 3rd through the 5th. Three technical seminars will be presented to address integrated circuits, flat panel displays, and environmental issues.
The exposition will occupy 15,552 square meters with 811 exhibit booths, a 50 percent increase over SEMICON Korea '96. Over 16,000 local and international visitors are expected from South Korea, China, Europe, India, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Singapore and the U.S.

Korea International Factory Automation System Exhibition
For four days in March, the Korea Exhibition Center and Chom Dan, Inc. will be hosting the Korea International Factory Automation Show (KOFA '97). With a technology drive currently underway and factories leaning toward more and more automation to counter high labor costs and achieve greater efficiency, KOFA has become an important event to introduce technology seekers with technology providers.
Scheduled for March 13-16, the exhibition will feature exhibitors of robotics, flow systems and warehousing, piping, control-measuring instruments and signal processing, FA interface, packaging systems, sensors, auto machine fitting and material, oil/air pressure equipment, CAD/CAM, process control, simple purpose automatic machines, weighing instruments, and others.

Seoul International Apparel Show
In these consumer oriented times, the exhibition has emerged as an effective method for product promotion and
trade --avoiding the expense and risk of advertising. As Asia opens its enormous potential buying power to
fashion-related goods, SIAS be-comes a marquee event for an industry that has always been a Korean staple.
SIAS '97 will be held at KOEX February 13-16 and is hosted by the Korean Apparel Industry Association. All sorts of fashion-related goods will be on display and at least 16 fashion shows (four per day) will be scheduled. The organizers expect around 70,000 visitors to pass through the exhibition.
The Korean apparel market itself is reason enough for hundreds of top domestic brands and foreign exporters to show their goods here. The retail market is estimated to be worth over $30 billion per annum with growing sophistication and style.

Korea International Construction, Building Equipment & Material Exhibition
Big events mean big construction projects slated for Korea's near future and a construction market opening to foreign firms means that the field is wide open for companies vying for those projects.
Korea's Ministry of Construction and Transportation reports that construction investment will amount to over $2.4 billion for the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup, $12 billion for the 2000 Asian Games, and $3.6 billion for the 2000 ASEM. Those events, along with natural growth, call for increased investment on infrastructure projects like airports, express trains, highways, and seaports. Conbex '97 provides a forum for all interested parties to meet and exchange ideas. It will be a chance for exhibitors to forge special relationships with existing customers, new prospects, market regulators and other business partners. Conbex will take place March 22-25 at Seoul's Korea Exhibition Center (KOEX) and is hosted by KOEX and Korea Fairs Ltd.
Formerly known as the "Construction Show," last year's event attracted 130 exhibitors from ten countries and over 35,000 visitors. The show is billed by the organizers as "a good opportunity for the domestic building and construction industry to market its products and services to an international audience, and extremely valuable chance for foreign companies to market themselves and their products in the fastest growing economic region in the world."

13th Korea International Medical Equipment Show
For the medical field, KIMES is the largest show with the longest history in Korea. It provides an ideal opportunity for new-to-market foreign companies--and those companies that are simply seeking a new way to market--to understand and participate in Korea's medical industry. Organizers provide this forum for an expected 470 exhibitors from 27 countries to meet industry agents, distributors, key government officials, patent specialists and others.
The show is jointly organized by the Hankook Ilbo, Seoul Kyungje and Korea Medical Instruments Industrial Cooper-ative. It will take place from March 5th through the 8th at KOEX. Exhibits will be grouped in the following categories: Consultation and diagnosis equipment, clinical examination equipment, radiology equipment, surgical apparatus, cure apparatus, physiotherapy apparatus, ophthalmic apparatus, dental apparatus, central supply equipment, hospital accommodation, emergency equipment, medical information systems, oriental medicine, healthcare, disposable apparatus, and others.
Korea's market for medical equipment was worth about $927.4 million in 1995, which included over $745 million in imports.

Seoul International Lighting Show '97
Due in large part to a construction boom for homes, apartments and offices, along with the addition of new regional television stations and a cable TV industry, the Korean lighting industry is enjoying an expanding market for its products and services. And with the diversification in consumer demand for lighting, along with the new demands from the entertainment and broadcasting sectors, domestic lighting companies are investing more heavily in R&D, and are actively investing in joint ventures with foreign companies.
Currently, the Korean lighting industry is not import oriented. But all of Korea's markets are opening up and the lighting industry is expected to follow suit soon, so domestic manufacturers are preparing for an influx of foreign products.
Silight will open for a four-day run at KOEX beginning March 22 and expects upwards of 35,000 visitors including managers, technicians, manufacturers and others involved in the lighting and construction fields. The exhibition will include a "New Lighting Fixture Design Contest" for industry specialists and students.
