The 4th International Glass Industry Technology Exhibition for Korea
From sheet glass to glass bottles and glassware, glass fiber and new glass, the demand in Korea for finished products as well as related production machinery is greater than ever. GLASS KOREA '97, to be held from July 18-21 at KOEX, will provide a fine forum for international companies to introduce their latest machinery and products and to develop relationships with buyers from Korea and the region.
Sheet glass has been in high demand (estimated at 29,600 boxes in 1996) because of the nation's construction boom and increased automobile output, while demand for glass bottles and glassware has also surged with Korea's higher living standard and preference for recyclable materials. Glass fiber demand is boosted because of the fast-growing industries such as engineering plastics, semiconductors, aviation, and electronic components (prompting the government to invest $137 million to uplift the local industry), windows are estimated to have a turnover of $300 million with an annual growth rate of 10 percent, and the Korean government has ambitious plans to produce $300 million worth of new glass products such as optical fiber, laser glass, glass ceramics, and sealing frit by the year 2000.
Ever since its debut in 1992, GLASS KOREA has grown significantly in terms of scale and popularity. At the latest event (1995). 146 exhibitors from 20 countries saw about 14,000 visitors pass through the gates.
