

The 12th Seoul International Instrumentation Exhibition
The Korean government, in line with its goal of increasing international competitiveness of Korean manufacturing, has allocated nearly $214 million for the development of key technologies. In fact, 5 percent of the total GNP is being earmarked for research and development. Because of such efforts, not only from the public sector but also from private industry, Korea is more and more becoming known as a promising market, particularly in the instrumentation and technological sectors.
Seoul Instrument, one of the longest running annual marketing events for instrumentation producers, is scheduled for September 22nd to the 25th this year at the Korea Exhibition Center (KOEX). KOTRA and the Electronics Industries Association of Korea (EIAK) are organizing this event which will feature exhibitors in the following broad categories: test and measuring instruments, control devices, automation equipment, scientific testing and analyzing equipment, optical equipment, and other related parts and products.

The world renowned COMDEX name is coming to Korea, which has a multibillion dollar information technology market that includes some of the world's largest players. In fact, the local IT market is now valued at over $6 billion and is expected to grow 29 percent annually through 1999.
COMDEX Korea will be an IT trade show for all types of computer and communications products and services and will include a conference featuring world famous authoritative IT experts who will give their perspectives on hot issues to enhance technology and idea exchange among Korea's IT professionals, IS directors and MIS managers from government, commerce, industry, and academia.
The event will take place August 26-30 at the Korea Exhibition Center.

Seoul International Chain Store Show
Franchising and chains are a relatively new phenomenon in Korea, but now that they have gained a foothold, their market is mushrooming. Chain Store 7 provides a forum for introducing new products and new companies in the following categories: store facilities and systems, store management systems, store displays, franchise businesses, storage automation/logistics, food and beverages, consumer goods, convenience store facilities and systems, and other related services.
Chain Store '97 will be organized by the Korea Super Chain Stores Association (KOSCA) and the Korea Exhibition Center (KOEX) and will take place during the September 30-October 3 period.

Korea International CAD/CAM/CAE Exhibition and the Korea International Computer Graphics & Multimedia Exhibition
The Seoul Daily News and Korea Broadcasting System are the organizers of this years joint CAD/CAM and Computer Graphics exhibition which will take place at KOEX September 22-25.
The exhibit list for each section of the show is long, covering every conceivable product and service within the categories. This event has grown into one of Korea's premier computer-related exhibitions and attracts a larger set of exhibitors and greater crowds every year.

Seoul International Environmental Industry Fair
A clean and natural environment is the most valuable legacy we can pass down to our descendants, so to remind us of that fact and to propose new ways of preserving the earth, the Joong-Ang Ilbo is staging Enviro 7 from September 30th through October 3rd at KOEX.
The fair aims at promoting the development of environmental technology through the exchange of information and introduction of new products from various environmental sectors. Enviro 7 offers the opportunity for companies from around the world to showcase their visible efforts in saving our planet.

Seoul International Cartoon & Animation Festival
Korea quietly established itself as a major base for cartooning and animation long ago and now SICAF has established itself as the world's leading total animation event. At the second SICAF in 1996, over 400,000 people from all over the world attended.
The 1997 festival will take place August 14-21 at KOEX. The SICAF Organizing Committee, along with broadcasters KBS and SBS are presenting the show which will feature cartoon, animation and student/amateur club displays as well as commercial booths, an animation theater, contests and audience participation, symposiums and workshops, "Korean Animation '97,"which will introduce features, TV and theater animation programs scheduled to air in 1997, and "Digital World," a showcase for high-tech computer animation processes and internet applications.
