The 1st Korea Technomart '98

 In the globalized knowledge-based economy, competitive advantage is becoming increasingly based on leading-edge technologies. LOGISTICS SHOW '98

 This specialized exhibition will features all manner of equipment relating to transportation materials handling, and the information systems to coordinate them, from insulated and refrigerated trucks and conveyors to containers and logistics software. Special exhibits will be organized by those companies currently engaged in developing Korea's social overhead capital. The show hosts some 70,000 logistics professionals annually, attracted by the prospect of learning first-hand about new products and services and the opportunity to expand their business interests. Logistics Show '98 runs at the Pacific Hall of the COEX Dec. 11 to Dec. 14.

Seoul Stoff '98

 Korea's premier fabric show plays host to the world when Seoul Stoff opens Nov. 17. To be held at the Fashion Center, an annexe of the Textile Center in southern Seoul's Kangnam-gu, some 50 companies specializing in high-quality fabrics will exhibit a comprehensive selection of woven materials, knits, embroidery, lace, fancy yarns, and accessories. Supporting programs include a fashion show and seminar plus an special exhibition of the winning entries of the Seoul Design Textile Contest. Seoul Stoff runs to Nov. 20. Want to know more? CHAIN STORE '98

 A revolution is under way in Korean retailing fuelled by the rising living standards and increasing sophistication of the Korean consumer. Traditional family-owned stores are gradually giving way to the convenience, variety, buying power, and level of service offered by new forms of retailing, among them, the chain store. The 1998 Seoul International Chain Store Show aims to enable operators keep abreast of developments in the trade by offering a sample of the latest in food and beverage products and domestic products, plus a range of systems to enhance their product storage, display, handling, pricing and labelling capabilities. The rise in the popularity of the show is evidenced by the fact Chain Store '97 attracted some 142 companies from 14 countries, a two-and-a-half-fold increase since the show's inception in 1991. Runs at the COEX Nov. 25 to Nov. 28.

MEDIA & FILM EXPO '98

 The rise of the Korean film, video and animation industry has prompted the need for a showcase for associated leading-edge technologies, a need which has found its expression in the annual Seoul Media & Film Expo. This year's expo will feature hi-tech media exhibits such as DVD, video conferencing and multimedia systems; media S/W and PC-based media S/W for video, film, CD-ROM title, graphics, laser disk, animation and simulation applications; and H/W such as production, photography and photographic development equipment. Last year's event drew 36,000 vistors, more than three-quarters of whom were were in industry mangement, purchasing, sales and marketing, research and development, or technical support. The COEX will host the Media & Film Expo from Dec. 3 to Dec. 6.

KOSIGN '98

 Signs from giant advertising boards to point-of-purchase devices and using technology ranging from fiber optics to LED and neon will be on display at the 1998 Korea International Sign Show to be held at the COEX Dec. 5 to Dec. 8. The 103 companies exhibiting at 382 booths at last year's KOSIGN attracted over 72,000 visitors, 10,000 of whom were in a related technical field, a further 10,000 were management, while 5,000 were directly involved in industry purchasing. Overall, an indication of the show's value to the industry was that a huge 64 percent indicated the purpose of their presence was to purchase.

SIMESTA '98

 No surer way exists to tap Korea's burgeoning agricultural machinery market than the 1998 Seoul International Exhi-bition of Machinery, Science & Technology for Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, and Livestock, the largest of its kind held in the country. Last year's SIMESTA demonstrated the strength of the show in attracting key decision makers regarding agricultural machinery purchases - 61 percent of 1997's visitors were farmers. Imports, which stood at $221 million in 1996, show a trend to fully automatic, heavier and therefore more expensive equipment. Capture your share of Korea's $1.6 billion Agriculture Industry market at this year's SIMESTA, to be staged at the Korea Convention and Exhibition Centre (COEX) Nov. 16 to Nov. 21.
