High Resolution LCD Projector for PC Presentations
A newly introduced projector from
LG Electronics supports XGA grade high resolution (1024 x 768 pixels)
with a top-of-the-range light output of 1,400 Ansi lumens (a unit
of brightness which also indicates the evenness of the overall screen),
to ensure perfect clarity of the image on the screen even with the
room lights on. Furthermore, it produces a mere 36dB or less of
operating noise, the lowest level of emission for a projector of
this kind, even less than that created by a regular PC (45.5 dB)
or an air conditioner (600 dB). Also, the projector can be easily
connected to various video appliances such as a TV, VCR, DVD player
or video camera recorder as well as to a PC, to provide the user
with crystal clear video images even when projected onto the largest
of screens. Another key advantage of this projector lies in its
outstanding features of auto-positioning and auto-tracking. The
auto-positioning feature automatically centers the projected image
on the screen while the auto-tracking feature automatically prevents
and balances out any vertical distortions that may be caused by
conflict between the projector and signals from the PC. Equipped
with these features, the projector maximizes both convenience for
users and the professionalism of their presentations.

Anticancer Substance through Plant Cell Culture
Technology
Paclitaxel is considered an excellent
anticancer drug in that it is low in toxicity and it demonstrates
outstanding efficacy in restraining the proliferation of cancerous
cells by countering the process of cell mitosis. Methods of producing
paclitaxel, include extraction from natural sources, semi-synthesis
and plant cell and tissue culture. The original method of producing
paclitaxel, isolating a substance in the bark of the Pacific yew
tree (Taxus brevifolia), has many shortcomings. The method of semi-synthesis
is also confronted by such challenges as the removal of various
impurities and the supply of a uniform quality of source material.
Samyang Genex has succeeded in developing an innovative and environment-friendly
method of mass producing paclitaxel through plant cell and tissue
culture, which assures a superior standard of quality and reduced
production costs. The newly developed method involves obtaining
more than 300 cell lines from different species of yew tree and
the optimization of media and culture conditions. Low productivity
and low growth rate, recognized as major obstacles in the plant
cell culture technology, have been adequately addressed. The bioreactor
in which cells are cultured has been designed to control external
stimulation and an efficient purification process has been developed
which results in purity levels in excess of 99.5 percent. Samyang
Genex has filed the drug's master file with the United States Food
and Drug Administration for approval of paclitaxel produced in this
manner as an anti-cancer treatment.

Automatic Multi-torch Fillet Welding Technology
Welding is the primary procedure
in vessel construction. High efficiency and high quality demonstrated
in fillet joint welding, which accounts for approximately 70 percent
of total welding procedures, is thus considered as the criterion
for competitiveness in the shipbuilding industry.
The automatic multi-torch fillet welding technology developed
by Hyundai Heavy Industry Co. Ltd. incorporates 28 welding torches
which are operated simultaneously to enable high-speed welding at
a rate of 1.2 meters per minute. In addition, optimum welding conditions
for different types and shapes of objects are memorized and reproduced
so accurately that hull welding work, which previously required
a high level of skill, can now be done by unskilled workers. Also,
its self-precipitation pulsing system is capable of treating huge
volumes of hazardous fumes emitted in the welding process, thus
significantly improving the immediate working environment. Compared
to conventional welding technology represented by manual gravity
welding, the automatic multi-torch fillet welding technology can
increase productivity 14- to 20-fold, reduce production costs, and
improve overall quality. Besides shipbuilding, this new technology
is applicable to the manufacture of plant or steel structures.
